Choose an important theme..OBAMA BOOK

February 23, 2011 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

The first section’s theme I would say would be, “Learning and remembering a father.” The whole first section tells about Obama’s father. Obama was a young boy when his father left him. He grew up without him, then as a man Obama get’s a call saying his father died. So the whole first section he talks about all the stories he has heard about him.

The only reason why Obama has a clue of who is father was, is because of the stories he had heard when he was a little kid. Also in the first chapter he gets to look back at them stories, from his mom and grandpa, as a man. So he notices more and gets a better conception of what his dad was like.

Winter Questions for The Bluest Eye

December 22, 2010 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

  1. Morrison personifies Winter and uses metaphors comparing Mr. Macteer to when she says in the book “his high forehead is the frozen sweep of the erie, hiding currents of gelid thoughts that eddy in the darkness.”
  2. Pecola is harassed by the boys while she was on her way home. They started to circle her and shout names, and telling her her dad sleeps naked. The boys are just putting her down, making her feel unwanted. All bullies do this to kids because they feel like there better, and they want to prove it by teasing them.
  3. Maureen Peal is a follower, she thinks that other kids pick on Pecola and think they’re better than her so she starts doing the same. I think Moureen is just trying to fit in and don’t want to start off in the wrong group of friends, were she will get picked on if she hangs out with Pecola.
  4. Claudia and Frieda think that Maureen is so perfect, because she’s white, pretty, and comes from a wealthy family. So they start to wonder if they’re good enough.
  5. I think that the MacTeer sisters’ frightened by the prostitutes so they just stay away from them.
  6. Geraldine had an obsession, she was getting mad at Pecola because she was accused of killing the cat.
  7. Geraldine spoils junior with everything he wants but she doesn’t show any affection towards him. He realizes she doesn’t love him at much as she should, and she treats her cat like a lonely child. So he took it all out on Pecola because he can’t take it out on his mother.
  8. Junior treats Pecola like she is not a person with no feelings. Then he starts to become friends with her to take her to his house and persuade her to kill the cat. Geraldine also treats her like nothing and flips out on her. This time no one is there to stick up fer her.

The Lady With The Pet Dog

1. Consider the following assessment of the story: “No excuses can be made for the lovers’ adulterous affair. They behave selfishly and irresponsibly. They are immoral-and so is the story.” Explain what you think Chekhov’s response to this view would be, given his treatment of the lovers. How does this compare with your own views ?

I believe Chekhov would have a very strong response to this statement considering he wrote about Anna and Dimitry’s love being so strong.Yes, they cheated on their significant others, but it was  because when they set eyes on each other they thought it was love at first sight, and there is nothing immoral about that. My views on love compare to Dimitry and Anna’s. They were in love cheating or not, and i believe love has no boundaries  nor limits.

2.Why is it significant that the setting of this story is in a resort town? How does the vacation atmosphere affect the action ?

The setting of the story plays a major role on the charters actions, because when your on vacation your mind set is different compared to when your home. On vacation people become more open minded and care free , people also like to play different roles while on vacation, like make belief.

3. What does Gurov’s view of women reveal about him? Why does he regard them as an “inferior race ?”

Gurov’s view on woman is disrespectful,  he just uses them. He regards all woman  as an “inferior race”  based on one woman’s characteristics, his wife.  His wife lacks intelligence and lets Gurov walk all over her, which makes him believe all woman are like her.

5. When and why do Gurov’s feelings about Anna begin to change?  Is he really in love with her ?

Gurov feelings for Anna begun to change when they ended their “fantasy life” and went back to reality, this is when he notice he “loved” her. I do not think he really loves her i just think hes in love with the idea of an exciting affair, i think most affairs are like this.

7. What is the effect of having Gurov as the central consciousness? How would the story be different if it were told from Anna’s perspective ?

The story is told in Gurov’s point of view, which shows a mans opinion on an affair, if the story was  in Anna ’s point of view  the story would be a woman’s opinion on an affair. I would much rather like to read this story in Anna’s point of view because i respect a woman’s opinion.

Where I am From Poem

October 7, 2010 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

I am from Philly,

from rain and sun.

I am from the cement in my yard.

I am from the trees  outside,

and from the furniture inside.

I’m from watching tv all day

to eat Ellios at night.

I am from what’s up to deuces.

I’m from sports and sleeping,

from waking up for school.

I am from the family that loves me,

and the friends that got my back.

Hello world!
